Debt payoff calculator
Compare minimum-only payments, debt snowball, and debt avalanche using the same balances and monthly budget. See the tradeoff before choosing a payoff order.

Build the payoff comparison
Add each active debt, then set the total amount available for all debt payments each month. Every listed minimum remains protected.
What the calculator assumes
Interest is estimated monthly from the APR you enter. Required minimums stay funded, and cleared payments roll into the next priority debt. Fees, daily balance methods, new purchases, and rate changes are not modeled.
Snowball and avalanche change only the priority
Snowball directs extra money to the smallest balance. Avalanche directs it to the highest APR. Both continue the minimum on every other active debt.
- Use snowball when an earlier visible payoff helps consistency.
- Use avalanche when minimizing estimated interest is the main goal.
- Compare the actual difference before treating either label as a rule.
A sustainable monthly budget matters more
The payoff order cannot compensate for a payment that leaves rent, food, transport, or a safety buffer unfunded. Test an amount you can repeat during an ordinary month.
Update the estimate when the facts change
Recalculate after a rate adjustment, new charge, large payment, or missed month. Payoff dates are planning estimates, not lender guarantees.
Questions people ask next
Do I stop paying the other debts?
No. Every strategy assumes you keep paying at least the listed minimum on every active debt.
Why does a strategy show no payoff date?
The balances did not reach zero within the calculator's safety limit. A payment may be too close to monthly interest, or the overall budget may need review.
Which strategy is recommended?
The results make the estimated interest difference visible. Avalanche usually minimizes interest; snowball may create earlier wins. Choose the rule you can sustain.
