What is Night Shift Differential (NSD)?

Under Article 86 of the Labor Code of the Philippines, night shift differential is extra compensation of not less than 10% of the regular wage for each hour of work performed between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

If night work is performed on a rest day, special day, or regular holiday, the 10% night differential is computed based on the higher premium rate for that specific day type.

Questions people ask next

How does night differential work on holidays?

On a regular holiday (200% rate), the night differential is 10% of the 200% rate (which equals 20% of the base hourly wage), resulting in a combined rate of 220% for regular night hours on a holiday.

Is lunch break counted in night shift differential?

No. A bona fide uncompensated 60-minute meal break is non-working time and is deducted from total shift hours.
